Nose Surgery
Rhinoplasty (nose surgery or nose job) has remained one of the most popular procedures to enhance the appearance of the nose, however it may also be done in certain circumstances for reconstructive purposes. The nose remains the focal point of the face, and small changes can result in dramatic improvements. Our doctors prefer a more subtle approach, with minimal to no scaring, less resection, and more reshaping. This leaves you with an improved contour that better fits your face, giving you a more natural appearance.
“I just wanted to thank you for making me look younger. I feel so much better about myself. Looking forward to seeing you and your staff in the near future. – I.W.
Procedure
Rhinoplasty is performed as an outpatient. It is done through an endonasal or closed approach (without and external incision) or through an open approach (with a small external incision). Our doctors use both techniques, and tailor the operation to your needs. The procedure involves shaping the top of the nose by recontouring a large hump or a deficient area. Often the tip of the nose can be rather large or bulbous needing further refinement. Some patients have a deviated nose related to their septum. This is straightened during the procedure. The skin is then draped over the enhanced framework showing the new and improved nasal contour. The size of the nostrils may also be out of proportion to the rest of your nose or face, having a flared appearance. This is also corrected at the time of surgery as well.
Some patients have difficulty breathing through their nose. This can be related to previous trauma, surgery, or abnormally formed cartilage or bone. These issues can be addressed with your rhinoplasty itself or at the time of your operation.
You will go home the same day as your surgery. Rhinoplasty takes around 2 hours to perform. You will have a splint on your nose, which will stay on for several days. Our doctors typically do not use nasal packing. We will see you in the office the following day, at one week, and then extend your visits out from there depending on how you are doing. You can return to normal activity within a week and the majority of swelling is gone by 4 weeks. It can take several months for every last bit of swelling to disappear.
Finances
We want you to get the procedure you need to look and feel your best. Financing is available if needed. Rhinoplasty or septoplasty (correction of a deviated or abnormal septum) may be covered or partially covered by insurance in cases of trauma or functional breathing difficulties and can improve your quality of life. We will review all of this with you during your consultation.
